On June 10, 2012, our staff returned to the U.S. from a two week assessment trip to South Sudan and the Nuba Mountains of Sudan. While there, they witnessed the shocking consequences of the genocide being committed against the Nuban people.
In a new update paper, our CEO writes about what our team witnessed during their time in Yida Refugee Camp and the Nuba Mountains of Sudan. Waging Peace in a Changing Sudan comes at a pivotal moment in this crisis, which is now in the final moments of the tipping point before catastrophe. The warned about, manmade famine created by the Sudanese regime has arrived, even as a measles outbreak threatens to claim the lives of thousands of children. Aerial bombardments continue unabated as hundreds of thousands of people remain trapped in the Nuba Mountains. The area is about to become a killbox in the coming weeks due to the violence and a complete lack of humanitarian aid.
Despite these horrifying developments, there is still time to stave off the opening chapter of this catastrophe. Here is what you can do to take action:
- Read Waging Peace in a Changing Sudan. Facebook, tweet, and email it to your network.
- Email Waging Peace in a Changing to Sudan to your Representative and Senator, using your own personal message. Ask for an emergency hearing in both the House and the Senate concerning Sudan.
- Support relief efforts on the border right now by making a one-time investment in the End Nuba Genocide Campaign or become one of the fundraisers. The more the merrier!
- Check our website frequently for updates concerning our documentary film on the crisis in the Nuba Moutains. Our media team is hard at work to release it as soon as humanly possible. You can also keep up with us on Facebook and Twitter.
