Operation Broken Silence's Board of Directors provides our organization a diversity of experiences, skills, perspectives, and connections to carry out its governing, recruiting, and fundraising responsibilities.

We currently have the following volunteer Board positions open. Before applying, we encourage you to make sure you meet all the qualifications and time commitments required for the position you are applying for, as we will be holding you to your commitments if you fill the position. Heart of Nuba Lead

As the Heart of Nuba Lead Board Member for Operation Broken Silence, you will assist the organization's staff in growing the organization's fundraising and recurring donor support for the Heart of Nuba CampaignThis role is critical to increasing our support to Mother of Mercy Hospital, which is the only functioning hospital in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Attend and actively engage in quarterly Board meetings. 
  • Enthusiastically work with the Recruitment Director and Fundraising Enthusiast to design innovative, inspirational, engaging, and informative Heart of Nuba film screenings and recruitment events.
  • Recruit a minimum of 10 recurring donors and/or fundraisers per year to The Renewal: Healthcare giving program or Heart of Nuba fundraising campaign.
  • Be a member of The Renewal: Healthcare giving program or make a significant one-time financial or peer-to-peer fundraising contribution to the organization annually.

  • Articulate, powerful, and persuasive public speaking skills, with well-honed relationship building and written communication skills.
  • A dynamic, driven, and professional attitude that helps shape the future of the Board's efforts and the organization as a whole.
  • A relentless and self-starter drive to empower Board members and staff through constructive and engaging leadership. 
  • A team-orientation and strong work ethic, essential for our high-impact and high-energy environment that continually strives for excellence.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the presence and personal style to represent the organization to multiple constituents.

  • Your know your mission. You understand that our support to Mother of Mercy Hospital is saving and changing lives. That's the only inspiration you need.  
  • You love the numbers. You get excited as more and more funding is raised for the hospital. Like, crazy awesome excited.
  • You're hyper-organized. Google Drive is a breeze to you, completing tracking sheets makes your heart full, and no potential donor falls through the cracks on your watch. 
  • You're confident. You’re not scared to speak up when you have a question or when you think something needs improvement, and you do it with respect for others.
  • You're a team player. You don’t care who has the idea, as long as it’s good. You care more about the end result than about personal recognition.

LOCATION, REQUIREMENTS, & TIME COMMITMENT

  • This Board position is for those located in a major U.S. or European city only. 
  • Individuals applying should be aware that this volunteer position is available only to those who are not on the Board(s) of other nonprofit organizations. 
  • The Heart of Nuba Lead Board Member is expected to have a minimum of 2 free hours most weeks of the year to dedicate to the organization.

Endowment Fund Lead

As the Endowment Fund Lead Board Member for Operation Broken Silence, you will assist the organization's staff in growing fundraising and recurring donor support for our self-started Endowment FundThis role is critical to ensuring our long-term sustainability and growing our capabilities to better serve our Sudanese partners. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Attend and actively engage in quarterly Board meetings. 
  • Enthusiastically work with the Executive Director to design and implement an innovative, inspirational, engaging, and informative annual event benefiting our Endowment Fund.
  • Recruit a minimum of 10 recurring donors and/or fundraisers per year to The Renewal: Endowment Fund giving program or The Endowment Fund fundraising campaign.
  • Be a member of The Renewal: Endowment Fund giving program or make a significant one-time financial or peer-to-peer fundraising contribution to the organization's Endowment Fund annually. 

MUST-HAVES

  • An incredible passion for our work that inspires those around you to join our mission.
  • Articulate, powerful, and persuasive public speaking skills, with well-honed relationship building and written communication skills.
  • A dynamic, driven, and professional attitude that helps shape the future of the Board's efforts and the organization as a whole.

Board Member Sudanese Commuity Lead

Sudanese Community Lead

As the Sudanese Community Lead Board Member for Operation Broken Silence, you will assist the organization's staff in introducing our mission to second-generation Sudanese living in the United States, Europe, and Australia and mobilizing them for action within our movement. This role is critical to increasing our support to Sudanese-led programs that target the Nuba Mountains region of the country.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend and actively engage in quarterly Board meetings.

  • Enthusiastically work with the Recruitment Director to design innovative, inspirational, engaging, and informative calls, communication, meetings, and events for millennial Sudanese.

  • Recruit a minimum of 5 recurring donors and/or fundraisers per year to The Renewal giving program or one of our peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns.

  • Be a member of The Renewal giving program or make a significant peer-to-peer fundraising effort to the organization annually.

MUST-HAVES

  • Must have been born in Sudan or be a first-born generation Sudanese living in Memphis, TN.
  • An incredible passion for our work that inspires everyone with whom you share our mission.

  • Articulate, powerful, and persuasive communication skills, with a well-honed relationship building track record.

  • A dynamic, driven, and professional attitude that helps shape the future of our recruitment efforts and the organization as a whole.

  • A relentless and self-starter drive to empower Board members, staff, and volunteers through constructive and engaging leadership.

  • A team-orientation and strong work ethic, essential for our high-impact and high-energy environment that continually strives for excellence.

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the presence and personal style to represent the organization to multiple constituents.

The people of Sudan are overcoming two of the greatest challenges facing humanity today: war and genocide. Operation Broken Silence is working to accelerate their ability to generate lasting change through storytelling and movement-building, education and emergency response, and grassroots advocacy programs.
