On Friday, January 27, 2017, the Trump Administration issued a highly controversial executive order suspending the entry of refugees into the United States. This decision orders U.S. officials to determine additional screening practices ”to ensure that those approved for refugee admission do not pose a threat to the security and welfare of the United States.” As Pro Publica points out, this decision could also separate legal U.S. residents from their families. The Trump Administration's decision is already wreaking havoc on U.S. airportsfaith communities, and families in the United States.

To be clear, refugees already go through the most rigorous screening process of anyone allowed into the United States. Not only is this decision extremely unfair, it does severe damage to American national interests, security, and standing with our allies.

The executive order also includes a 90-day ban on individuals from Sudan, where our organization works. A large number of Sudanese who would meet the requirements for gaining refugee status into the United States have been targeted for death by their own government, which has a long history of supporting terrorist organizations. Sudanese refugees yearn for the same freedoms we enjoy here in the United States. Here is how you can help.
