Hello movement members!
Mark, Scovia, and Katie here! Wow did this year go by fast. We wanted to drop you one last message in 2016 to highlight some important moments from this year and what's coming up in 2017. But before we do that, we just wanted to say a huge thank you to all of you for standing with the people of Sudan in 2016. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
2016 Was A Hard Year For The Sudanese
A scorched-earth campaign in Darfur highlighted by government chemical weapons attacks, the United Nations abandoning Yida Refugee Camp, and learning that one of the translators on our previous films has been killed. These are just a few of the many struggles the Sudanese people dealt with this year.
We experienced some of these struggles alongside of them in our classrooms, on relief missions in the Nuba Mountains, and while shooting our 4th documentary film. But while what little international attention on Sudan only focused on the bad, we noticed something else from our time on the ground: hope for change is spreading.
2017 is going to be a critical year both for the people of Sudan and our movement. Sudan's dictatorship is increasingly vulnerable in the face of more and more Sudanese standing up. Our movement is growing so quickly that we've brought on board additional staff to mobilize more support for our Sudanese friends. Hope is spreading for one very simple reason: change in Sudan is inevitable.
But there is still much work to be done. In a lot of ways, we're only just getting started. Thanks to you, next year we already know we'll be putting an additional 6 Nuba teachers back to work, continuing our emergency relief efforts to Sudanese in need, sending our first Nuba student to college, and growing our campaign to support the only hospital in the Nuba Mountains. We'll also be unleashing two of our most powerful media projects to date: a photography exhibit and our 4th documentary film.
You can help empower our Sudanese friends in 2017 by giving to specific educational and humanitarian needs they have asked us to fill. Make your last donation of the year count towards empowering them.
Thank you so much for fundraising, giving, and advocating alongside of our Sudanese friends in 2016! As usual, we'll have our annual report out in January so you can see everything you accomplished.
Don't forget to make your last gift of the year. See you in 2017!
Mark, Scovia, and Katie
