Eden's Run 5K is back for its 9th year on Saturday, October 20, 2018 starting at 9:30AM!
Don't forget, if you registered through the Free $100 Fundraising Challenge and haven't reached your goal by race day morning, you'll need to make a donation to your page to cover the rest. FIND YOUR PAGE »
If you've already paid for your tickets or reached your fundraising goal, the following is everything you need to know, all in one place.
About The Cause
Whether you registered for free and are raising $100 or paying-to-enter and skipping fundraising, the funds you are raising and giving support childhood education in Yida Refugee Camp, South Sudan.
Since 2015, our amazing Eden's Run 5K runners have been supporting the Endure Primary School in Yida. This special, Sudanese-led school began as 4 small classrooms led by just a few teachers. Because of Eden's Run 5K runners, this school now has 10 classrooms led by twelve Sudanese teachers. Every week they teach 900+ students who fled from the Nuba Mountains just across the border. Sudan's dictatorship has been waging a genocidal war against civilians there since 2011.
In August 2017, this incredible school became one of the top-performing schools in the entire region. And by the end of this year, the final grade will be added to the school! The funds you generously raise and give through Eden's Run 5K support these students and teachers. Watch this video to learn more:
Weather & Race Bags
It looks like this is going to be a classic week of Memphis weather: the weekly forecast is changing by the hour!
As we write this, it is supposed to be partly cloudy on Saturday with no rain. We're monitoring weather conditions up to race day morning though just in case that changes. If it is just misty or sprinkling, we'll continue with the run as we have in years past.
Again, right now it looks like it's actually going to be another beuatiful year for the run! If something changes, you'll hear from us Saturday morning.
If you registered before October 12, you are guarenteed a race bag, completion medal, and t-shirt! All of these are available for pickup on race day at the pavillion. We'll have some extra of everything on hand as well for those of you registering last minute; however, there is always the possibility we run out.
Arrival, Parking, & Check-In
You should plan on being at the check-in and registration pavilion between 9:00AM-9:30AM. The race starts a few minutes after 9:30AM just up the hill.
Our pavilion is just down the hill and across the street from the Woodland Discovery Playground. See the map below for the pavilion location.
Eden's Run 5K follows the Chickasaw trail at Shelby Farms Park. We run the course backwards, which means you get a little bit of an extra workout!
And yes, the run is timed! After you get clocked in at the end of the run, head back downhill to the pavillion for some light refreshments, awards, and more! Bonus points this year: Mempops will be at the pavillion and donating a portion of sales towards our race goal, and MidSouth Chiropractic will be doing the same if you need some adjustments after running made! Check out them and the other sponsors of this year's run:
By the way, if you haven't registered for the 5K yet, you still can!
The people of Sudan are overcoming two of the greatest challenges facing humanity today: war and genocide. Operation Broken Silence is working to accelerate their ability to generate lasting change through storytelling and movement-building, education and emergency relief, and grassroots advocacy programs.
