How To Start A Matching Campaign

for your personal fundraising page

Posted by on April 3rd, 2017

What is a matching campaign? This is when a generous donor offers a larger-sized donation and gives as others give. Mr. Matching Donor might pledge to donate $2,000 to your campaign, and every time someone donates any amount, he matches that amount all the way up to until $2,000 has been reached.

Having a matching donor is an excellent way to get your donations popping because people realize their impact can be doubled at no extra expense to themselves.

You can make a matching campaign exclusively for your page! There are two ways:

1. Be The Matching Donor

One of the best ways to meet your own fundraising goal is to create a matching campaign with your own funds. For example, if you were planning to make a $250 donation towards your goal, let your friends, family, and teammates know that you will match their gifts up to that amount.

If you are creating a matching fund for your own personal fundraising page, once the amount is met make a lump sum donation to your own fundraising page.

If you are creating a matching fund for your fundraising team, keep track of of how much each team member raised. Once the full matching amount has been given, make your matching contributions to each team member's fundraising page

2. Integrate An Outside Donor

If a donor would like to give a larger sized donation, ask them if they would be interested in double their impact with no extra effort on their part by allowing you to use their gift in a matching campaign. Explain to them how a matching campaign works so that they can feel comfortable letting you use their gift in this way.

If you secure a matching donor get in touch with us. We’ll set up a matching fund through our fundraising platform so that everytime someone gives a donation of the same size will automatically post to your fundraising page or team page. The donor will then write us a check once the matching funds have been used or the deadline has been reached.

This means that neither you or the donor will have to keep up with who has given or how much they’ve given in order to match it--we’ll do all of that for you!
