Partner Spotlight: Christ Church and CMDS

a recent highlight from our movement

Posted by Mark Hackett on October 5th, 2018

From September 24-30, 2018, Operation Broken Silence partnered with Christ Church Memphis and Christ Methodist Day School (CMDS) for a special showing of our Yida Photography Exhibit. Here is what they accomplished for the Sudanese people during the week:

Leading up to the week of having the exhibit on campus, our Recruitment Director Scovia Rushing spent time with CMDS teachers and students as they learned about Sudan, songs in Arabic, and more. The students designed and created thank you cards and bricks to raise money for a new high school we are opening alongside of our Sudanese education partner in Yida Refugee Camp, South Sudan next year. Leadership students also trained themselves to become exhibit tour guides for their fellow students and congregation members and staff at Christ Church.

On Christ Church's side, the showing of the exhibit was partnered with the church's Christ Feeds program and Rise Against Hunger. On the final Sunday of the showing, more than 600 congregants experienced the exhibit and donated to the new school. Several of the leadership students helped sell the cards the students made and gave guided tours of the exhibit. Following that, Christ Church members packed an impressive 120,000 meals that are being sent to South Sudan.

Here are a few photos from the week:

Not only was this the exhibit's second largest showing to date, it was also a fantastic time of community building between everyone involved. We're looking forwards to continuing our new relationship with Christ Church and CMDS!

There were several people at Christ Church and CMDS who worked hard to make sure this week went off without a hitch despite all of the moving parts. A special thank you to Bob Whitsitt, Grant Caldwell, Milton Craft, Mary Cheairs, Kathy DeFreece, Alex Schwartz, and Bryan Williams!

And thank you to all the teachers, students, and congregants who made this such a powerful and uplifting week. We are so grateful that we are now part of your family and commmunity!
