To see Dr. Tom Catena, many of his patients travel for days on foot, in carts, or often cradled in their mother’s arms. Welcome to the Nuba Mountains of Sudan, where the government attacks defenseless men, women, and children with supersonic bombers, and it doesn’t make anyone’s newswire.
The only surgeon within 200 miles, ‘Dr. Tom’ refuses to leave and does his best to save lives in the midst of carnage and terror, treating as many as 400 patients a day at Mother of Mercy Hospital. Access to basic medical supplies is extremely limited. The hospital depends entirely on private fundraising and donations to treat the wounded and train the staff. You can support Dr. Tom and his Nuba colleagues by starting a fundraising page and asking your friends and family to join you by giving towards your goal. The money you raise will support the lifesaving work being done every day at Mother of Mercy Hospital.
If you can't commit to fundraising right now, we encourage you to leave a lasting impact by making a contribution towards the campaign. There are three ways to give:
1. Give Monthly. You can sign up to support Mother of Mercy Hospital once a month with a recurring gift. GIVE MONTHLY »
2. Make A One-Time Donation. Not ready to fundraise or give monthly yet? Don't worry, you can still give once. MAKE A DONATION »
3. Give By Stock. For stock held in brokerage accounts, your broker can assist you in making a gift of stock via a direct transfer to Operation Broken Silence. Giving a gift of publicly traded stock that has increased in value and that you have owned for more than one year may provide better tax benefits than giving cash. Your charitable income tax deduction is equal to the fair market value of the stock and you avoid paying the capital gains tax on any increase in the current value over the original cost of the stock. You may also save on brokerage fees because you are transferring ownership rather than selling the stock. DOWNLOAD THE TRANSFER FORM »
