About
One billion people on the planet don’t have access to clean drinking water. That’s one in six of us. Charity: water is a non profit organization bringing clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations. They give 100% of the money raised to direct project costs, funding sustainable clean water solutions in areas of greatest need. Just $20 can give one person in a developing nation clean water for 20 years.
Charity:water was founded by Scott Harrison, a former nightclub and fashion event promoter who came face to face with the harsh realities of much of this world during a trip to West Africa in 2004. You can read his story by clicking here.
Since it’s creation, charity:water has raised millions of dollars for clean water projects across Africa and has helped over 650,000 people get access to clean and safe drinking water.
OBS Support
Operation Broken Silence supports charity:water because of their funding of work in areas where genocide is underway, has occurred, or could break out. By helping to fund clean water initiatives and projects on the ground in places like Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Uganda, we can help ensure that people just like us do not have to travel away from the safety of refugee camps and villages to find mankind’s most basic physical necessity: clean and safe drinking water.
Making sure that these people have safe drinking water also means that children can spend more time in school and adults can focus more on building microeconomic activity. In more ways than one, water is a major part of ensuring the safety and building up of communities in times of war and genocide, as well as in the often painful recovery years in genocide’s aftermath.
How You Can Help charity:water
It is simpler than you think. Charity:water takes 100% of public funds raised and puts them directly into clean water projects in developing nations, many of which are on Operation Broken Silence’s watch list due to genocidal events that have, are, or could occur there.
