About
Known as one of the most powerful aid organizations in the world, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has some of the largest, and most successful, humanitarian aid operations internationally. The ICRC is an independent, neutral organization ensuring humanitarian protection and assistance for victims of war and other situations of violence.
The ICRC is the only international aid and assistance organization which has a permanent mandate under international law to take impartial action for prisoners, the wounded and sick, and civilians affected by conflict. Under this mandate, the ICRC has spread their operations to around 80 countries worldwide and is often times the first emergency aid group to arrive to conflict zones and the last to leave. One of the proudest moments in the long history of the ICRC is it’s heroic actions during the 1994 Rwandan genocide, when ICRC aid workers refused to leave the country, helped to protect hospitals and refugee camps, and publicized classified information that sped up an extremely slow international response.
The ICRC is also a key leader in the human right’s movement within international law.
OBS Support
Deploying a massive international aid response into genocide and/or war stricken areas in Africa at the beginning of a conflict is key to ensuring that as many lives as possible can be saved. The ICRC is one of the few international emergency aid organizations that can put aid workers, relief supplies, and equipment into a conflict zone at the beginning of a crisis, as well as continuing to ensure that humanitarian operations spread throughout the duration of the conflict.
Operation Broken Silence supports the International Committee of the Red Cross due to their heroic efforts during times of genocide, massive human right’s violations, and/or war in Africa. The ICRC has a long record of moving into African conflict zones regardless of the status of political or social movements that can bring an end to the crisis. Seeing that no other aid organization has the authority and strength to respond to major humanitarian catastrophes under international law, the ICRC needs as much support as we can give it.
How You Can Help the ICRC
It is simpler than you think. By donating money to the IRCR you can ensure that aid will get to those who need it the most in African conflict zones.
