About
The 1994 apocalyptic genocide that consumed Rwanda did more than witness the murder of over 800,000 men, women, and children, it also produced thousands of children born from the horrific crime of rape. Today in Rwandan society, many of these children are often shunned and called “a child of the militia.” Most do not have opportunities for entering secondary school, and many of their mothers were infected with HIV while being raped, sometimes by multiple militiamen at a time.
This is where Foundation Rwanda comes into the picture. There mission is threefold:
- To provide funding for the secondary school education of children born from rape during the 1994 genocide
- To link their mothers to psychological and medical support services
- To create awareness of the consequences of genocide and sexual violence through photography and new media.
OBS Support
Operation Broken Silence supports the work of Foundation Rwanda due to their post-genocide recovery efforts. By helping to fund the education of children born from rape during the genocide, we can help build a brighter future for Rwanda, while simultaneously continuing to promote reconciliation by attacking the multiple social repercussions produced from the 1994 killings.
How You Can Help Foundation Rwanda
It is simpler than you think. The children born from rape during the genocide need money so they can get the proper education they deserve. By donating to Foundation Rwanda, you can help provide these much needed funds and widen the impact of Foundation Rwanda’s work.
