Senator Corker: Please Say Yes!

In the coming days, critical language requiring conflict minerals accountability will be part of the financial reform legislation currently being finalized by Congress.

Unfortunately, manufacturing and retail industry groups are lobbying hard to have it removed. Even though tech companies have admitted it would cost one penny per product to ensure a conflict-free supply chain, lobbyists for manufacturing companies continue to argue that even this penny is too expensive.

As an advocacy group in Tennessee that is extremely concerned about the crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo, one of our representatives can play a vital role in protecting the much needed language within the bill that brings the hope of eliminating conflict minerals from consumer products, and in so doing also strangling the funding of Congo’s civil war. We need Senator Corker to say yes!

Tennessee, Here’s What You Can Do:

Email Senator Corker: Email the following letter to Senator Corker by clicking the link:

“Senator Corker, please join a bi-partisan group of Senators in fighting to keep the Congo conflict minerals language in the financial reform bill. The tech industry estimates it would cost less than a penny per product to guarantee that their products are free of conflict minerals.

Over 5 million lives have been lost in eastern Congo due to the civil war and it’s consequences. The conflict mineral trade plays the key role in keeping the conflict alive. By fighting for the Congo conflict minerals language in the financial reform bill, we can begin to ensure that all of us in Tennessee have access to conflict mineral-free products, and in so doing, help to bring a final end to the deadliest war since World War II.

Senator Corker, please say yes to protecting this! We expect nothing less!”
