Why have an Endowment?
In March 2020, COVID-19 ground giving to a halt. Some of the most vulnerable people in Sudan faced the threat of childhood education and healthcare services evaporating. The hard-won progress our Sudanese partners are building at the community level was at risk of being reversed.
None of that happened. Our Endowment Fund gave us time to adapt and help our Sudanese partners continue their critical work. Without our endowment we would have been forced to close our doors, permanently.
Our mission will last a lifetime, if not longer. There will be other crises to overcome and, even if the war in Sudan ends tomorrow, it will take decades to build and entrench the change the Sudanese people seek. This is hard work that requires intense commitment. The more our Endowment Fund grows, the more sustainable and resilient our mission to seeing that commitment through becomes.
How does it work?
When you make a donation to our Endowment Fund, your gift goes into a high-yield savings account and immediately begins earning interest.
We invest a percentage of donations into stocks and bonds as outlined by our investment strategy. Your gift then starts generating a higher level of dividends, effortlessly multiplying your impact as the years go by.
Our investment strategy seeks to provide capital conservation, current income, and long-term growth of both. This includes common stocks, investment-grade bonds, and securities issued and guaranteed by the U.S. government. The endowment is overseen by our Board Treasurer, Executive Director, and third-party certified financial advisor.
